How to work around restrictive themes?
-
Whenever I pick a theme, looking in the preview there are separated rows on the pages meaning that the background is visible between the rows. However after the theme is selected, when i go to build the page with a page builder whatever I do it is confined to within one block within the theme. The theme overrides the page builder. Even if i add new rows with the page builder they are all contained within the central row of the theme meaning I cannot truly have separate rows. This happens with every theme. Could someone please give me guidance on how to add distinct rows on the theme?

Hi, you don’t mention what site you are working on, and whether this is a WordPress.COM or WordPress.ORG site? There are differences between the two with regards to the help and advice we can provide, and this forum is specifically for WordPress.COM support.
For more info on the differences in case it’s not clear: difference between .COM & .ORG sites .
I think what you are referring to are the widgets which can be places to the side (sidebars) or below (footers) the main body of text which you are editing successfully.
For more info on ‘customization’ check out some of these pages:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/video-tutorials/customize-your-site/
And also see the info on the specific theme page as each has specific features with regards to custom menus, sidebars, footers etc.
You can access the customizer by going to this address:
https://wordpress.com/customize/yoursite.wordpress.com where yoursite.wordpress.com you put your site name instead of yoursite
You can also access this area via:
https://yoursite.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?Please let us know if you need more help, and which is your site so we can provide more specific help, thanks
