Howdy! How may we help?

It’s a bit like the Windows search dog – irritating as hell but it went away eventually.
All things come to those that wait :)

Thanks, Jeremy. Am using the Classic.

Thanks for clarifying @davidderrick. We’re continuing to expand our live chat coverage. That means you’re more likely to see the live chat box when you reload the page. As I mentioned, we’re looking at different ways to best display the chat box so that users who want to contact us via live chat can use it, but it won’t annoy those that don’t.

Umm.. I have not seen any change here with the old editor. What is even more annoying is that if you ask that the constantly-appearing popup is removed, it does NOT get removed. It just just appears saying “Now chatting” instead of “Howdy” — and all that means is that if you type into the chat window, WP does not receive what you send! PLEASE think this through.

    Hi @davidderrick,

I understand the frustration with the inability to block the chat box from consistently popping up. We’re working on some improvements in this area!

I think the pop-up box is extremely useful. It does no harm and is at least a ready contact with the engineers if you have a problem. Its difficult enough these days to get direct contact with the engineers on WordPress today.
I would not want it to disappear as I have used it once already when I had a problem.

Live help is a good idea, and it’s sweet that WP is trying to bring it directly to us just in case we happen to need it *at that very moment*; but it’s a bit like having a friendly dentist knocking on our door every 20 minutes.
‘Got toothache?’ … ‘Got toothache now?’ … ‘Howdy! Got toothache now? Okay I’ll just return in 20 minutes then.’

WordPress, if people need help, please let them come to you. The chat box (or the availability of live help at that moment) could be on its own page under a nice, normal button marked ‘Help’. Or it could be added to the ‘Support’ page. In fact it seems odd that it isn’t already there.

What isn’t helpful is to have a bright blue box with the word ‘HOWDY’ pop up when you’re trying to get your words together, especially when (ironically) writing in ‘distraction free’ mode.
In ‘distraction free’ mode the whole page unclutters and becomes a soothing white space with just your text. It’s so quiet and harmonious and peacef-
    *HOWDY!*
And when that turquoise box pops up the distraction free mode is shattered, all the page clutter comes back, and your train of thought is very much distracted. :/

Thanks so much for your feedback @bohemianweasel! As mentioned previously, we’re working on some improvements that will help live chat fit more naturally into the page and not intrude on your work.

Thanks, jeremey. On the other hand, it isn’t that difficult. Just convert the popup into an easy-to-find link?

The Howdy pop-up is relentless and very annoying to me.

Reading the comments here about how there are worse annoyances in life is also irritating. I am 62 years old. I know there are worse annoyances.

    Thank you!

    @alainaholtadams
I agree and we are in the same age range so you may know the tune I refer to. When I see that !@#$%^ chatbox pop-up (that I eniother use nor want to use) load on every page load on my blog, without disrespect for Bruce Cockburn and what he was really singing about I sing “If I had a rocket launcher“.

I don’t believe in hate but this !@#$%^ pop-up combined with the 2 years of persistent, unannounced, unexpected, unwelcome user interface changes are tempting me to abandon slaying my ego, and take up personally attacking the sonof !@#$%^ ‘s who are doing this to us and then have the audacity to claim they are improving our blogging experience. As if!

There has to be a way for the so-called “developers”, whoever they may be, to provide us with the ability to disable the support chatbox and to opt out of being BETA testing guinea pigs for the new user interface.

P.S. The pagination of support docs and injection of link after link into the support docs is another annoyance that I would to like address in an environment where we can say what we think, feel and mean without being subject to suspension for speaking our truth to power.
