Howto make front page of blog show only posts summeries
-
Hello,
I have only just a few posts in my blog, and the front page is really long, because it displays the full posts, and not a summery of them.Is there a way to make the front page show only the beginning of the post, and not all of it?
Thanks,
Guy -
You can split the post while in the Visual Editor, using icon #13 as outlined below:

You won’t see the split in preview, but once your post is published (re-saved with already published posts) you will.

Thanks! that really makes things look better.
Is there a way to limit the maximum chars displayed thaugh? I would like to think less about it.. -
It’s strictly up to you as to where you choose to insert the “read more” tag into the text by using icon 13.

Personalized “Read more” text
You can change the wording of the “Read more” text that the theme is coded to automatically display as well. This is done by coding in!–more your text goes here more!-
Exceptions: The Fadtastic theme displays the only the most recent post in full on the front page. For all other posts only linked titles appear. The Hemingway theme displays excerpts from two posts side-by-side on the front page. -
What actually shows on the front page of a theme is determined by the theme designer. I have seen themes (outside of .com) that show only “excerpts” on the front page, but I don’t know of one available here that does that.
I think what timethief was pointing out is that if you use the more tag, it will also limit what shows up in your RSS feed (unless you have it set to “summary” already.

@tsp
Currently, there are no wordpress.com themes that are designed to display only excerpts. -
