ht.access broke website (http://vasusa.org)
-
I cannot access any part of my website( i get a ‘too long to respond error’) because I made a small error in the.htaccess file
I modified the .htaccess file for my website with the following code:<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.yoursite.com/$1 [R,L]
</IfModule>but I should have put in http://vasusa.org instead of https://www.yoursite.com/.
How can I get access to my website again? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi
Your site on vasusa.org appears to be hosted with Cloudflare.
If you want it to point to your site here on WordPress.com you will need to change the nameservers at GoDaddy ( your domain registrar) to:
ns1.wordpress.com
ns2.wordpress.com
ns3.wordpress.com
Then you can map your domain vausa.org to the site you are working on here on WordPress.com.
We can’t really offer advice about your current site because it’s not on WordPress.com but as a clue you should be able to log into your cloudflare account and use a file manager to directly edit the .htaccess file to remove the code causing the problem.
From what you describe my guess is that you are blocked on Port 80 for some reason so talk to Cloudflare about it. -
Actually no your aren’t blocked, you are redirecting to a non existent domain as you yourself know.
Slow head on lol -
Hi there,
Your site is using the open source WordPress software found over on WordPress.org. We cannot help you fix this here on WordPress.com.
Please post in the WordPress.org forums with details on the changes you made to .htaccess, and hopefully the users there will be able to advise you on fixing it.

Thanks for trying to help. However, if someone’s site is not hosted on WordPress.com, telling them to change their name servers to ours will only result in breaking their site completely and taking it offline. If you don’t know the answer to a thread, rather leave it for a more experienced volunteer or for staff to answer instead.
If you haven’t yet, please take a look at our volunteers guide here:

@kokkieh
Thanks for the advice. I will reread the volunteers stuff.
Can I just clarify though that the site he is asking for help with is vasrework.wordpress.com so I figured that he is rebuilding his site on WordPress.com and hasn’t changed the nameservers over.
I realized that his site on vasusa.org is on cloudflare so suggested that he could change the name servers if he wanted his wordpress.com site to be on the domain.
Then you can map your domain vausa.org to the site you are working on here on WordPress.com.
I fully understand DNS and it’s implications.
I think my answer is clear on that point but you are right about not offering help with the htaccess issue. I just couldn’t resist. -

Don’t assume. Ask. If someone submits a forum thread via the WordPress.com support contact form it automatically indicates the primary site in the account as the site the person needs help with, and that is not always the one they’re asking about.
And the fact that the OP mentioned editing the .htaccess file is a definite indicator that the site is not on WordPress.com, as we don’t allow access to that file on any site, on any plan.

Ahhh I need to keep an eye open for that wpcomhelp tag.
Thanks for the advice and clarification.
I think we have hijacked the OPs thread long enough though so lets mark it as closed.
Thanks again.
