HTML code for personal rating of reviews

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’ve spent the last two days looking for something but no luck. I’m not looking for a rating system for readers to vote but more a HMTL code that will produce a static symbol of a star / row of stars (or some other shape) for personal reviews (like the ones you see in magazines).

    This was the closest I came to solving the issue, so it seems to be possible (but without the hyperlinked numbers!):

    <ul class="star-rating">

    <li><a title="Rate this 1 star out of 5" href="#">1</a></li>
    <li><a title="Rate this 2 stars out of 5" href="#">2</a></li>
    <li><a title="Rate this 3 stars out of 5" href="#">3</a></li>
    <li><a title="Rate this 4 stars out of 5" href="#">4</a></li>
    <li><a title="Rate this 5 stars out of 5" href="#">5</a></li>

    Ideally, code for up to five symbols (in five variations) would be much appreciated.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    <ul class="star-rating">
    	<li><a class="one-star" title="Rate this 1 star out of 5" href="#">1</a></li>
    	<li><a class="two-stars" title="Rate this 2 stars out of 5" href="#">2</a></li>
    	<li><a class="three-stars" title="Rate this 3 stars out of 5" href="#">3</a></li>
    	<li><a class="four-stars" title="Rate this 4 stars out of 5" href="#">4</a></li>
    	<li><a class="five-stars" title="Rate this 5 stars out of 5" href="#">5</a></li>

    Sorry, I think I posted this in the wrong sub-forum!

    You posted in the correct sub forum I deleted the other thread since it was a duplicate.
    Someone that knows more about HTML will probably respond soon if they have an answer for you.

    Unless I’m misunderstanding something, the code you pasted is irrelevant.

    Code for a customizable star:
    <span style="color:#ffaa00;font-size:140%;">★</span>
    (filled-in)
    <span style="color:#ffaa00;font-size:140%;">☆</span>
    (hollow)

    Of course you can change the color and the size.

    Oops! In place of the stars, you should put these minus the spaces:

    & # 9 7 3 3 ;
    & # 9 7 3 4 ;

    Hi panaghiotisadam,

    Yes, that’s exactly what I meant!

    I’ve tried the codes and they seem to be working but the codes in your second post do not appear as stars…

    In my second post I resorted to inserting spaces between the characters so you could see those code snippets instead of the stars. Did you delete the spaces?

    Strange… it works now… The star shown in your first post appeared was a weird symbol (a hollow square containing unreadable characters) originally (same when I tried inserting the snippets without the spaces).

    Any reason for that?

    Since your blog is set to private, I can’t really tell.

    What browser and version are you using? What theme?

    I have to admit that it’s been working on my office computer but it wasn’t on my home PC. It may be my graphics card or just a simple glitch. I’ll confirm when I get back home. However, for now, thanks very much for your help!

    Oh, I almost forgot:

    Theme: Vigilance
    Browser: Firefox (both at home and at work).

    Cheers for your help. I think the display problem may be another issue.
