html in posts with Gateway Theme
-
Hey all,
I absolutely love the Gateway theme for my website, however I have noticed that when I add html code into blog posts, the theme undoes the html code and renders it useless (instead of embedding a video it shows a link to it). Is there a way to get this theme to support html code in blog posts?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We have code restrictions at wordpress.COM. No javscript widgets or iframes from unsupported sources or third party advertising codes can be used on any wordpress.COM hosted sites.

https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#html-tags
https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#javascriptre: embedding videos
We embed videos into pages and posts and no upgrade is required unless or until you exceed your free media space allocation. https://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/The video embeds in posts and pages that WordPress.com supports for all of our blogs – no upgrade required are found here.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/Video shortcodes are here http://en.support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/#video
Note to post your own videos requires a videopress upgrade unless they are on youtube or another source site that is supported and the videopress support doc location is https://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/ As a workaround, keep in mind that you can also upload your media to another service like youtube videos and insert it into your posts from there.
Example:
For youtube embedding into wordpress.COM blogs see here https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/For using the shortcode see here https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/#embedding-with-a-shortcode
For troubleshooting see here https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/#troubleshooting
NOTE: If you are trying to embed a youtube channel code that will not work.

I see that you said you have code restrictions:
“No javscript widgets or iframes from unsupported sources or third party advertising codes can be used on any wordpress.COM hosted sites.”
I was trying to embed an episode from Blog Talk Radio onto the Gateway themes homepage, but it would not allow me to. I looked on BTR and see that they have a partnership for a plugin for the WordPress.ORG sites, but still they are considered an unsupported source or third party? I’m actually shocked by this and not sure of a workaround if I’ll not be able to embed episodes from BTR.

@teamlesbians
Please click this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1 and create your own thread. -
It seems that it’s not possible unfortunately; not in the sense of pasting the embed code anyway. So there doesn’t seem to be much of a point in creating a new thread just to be told that it’s not possible for the free/.com sites. Besides when I have created threads in the past, I’ve never gotten a response from members that have answers/suggestions which is why I thought it would be okay to post it in here. My apologies if that’s not the case. Thank you so much though. Have a great day.

I have been waiting to answer your new thread. When we post into existing threads every time we post the other subscribed posters get emails they do not need or want.
So here we go.

There is no workaround.
Those embeds are not supported.Blogger installed plugin capability does not exist on WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality. Permalink structure cannot be changed on sites hosted by wordpress.com
For that type of functionality, you’d need a self-hosted WordPress.ORG software install running on a paid web hosting service.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/See: Moving to Self-Hosted WordPress
https://move.wordpress.com/WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

Yes. That’s why I said it didn’t seem to be possible here. I do know about the WordPress.Org sites and realize that the plugin I mentioned is for the .org sites only. I had just hoped that since they’d partnered with .org sites, that maybe they were also a supported source here.
Again, I truly appreciate you taking the time out to help me. Thank you again ♥

You’re welcome.
Frankly, I would not hold my breath waiting for the hide a post plugin to be included as that may never happen. I would move to self hosting.

Honestly, it seems like most of the things I need are pointing to self-hosting. When I think about it, I get overwhelmed because I’ve never done that before. But I’m beginning to see that I just may not have a choice. I think I will spend today looking into that. You’re awesome @timethief!
