HTML not translating
-
I have just started up a blog here (moviegoings.wordpress.com) and I imported several dozen posts from my movable type blog. I frequently use the < i > < / i > tag to italicize movie titles, but when these entries were imported they show up in the code on WordPress like this:
<i>The Elephant Man</i>
Instead of like this:
<i>The Elephant Man</i>
And, of course, on the page itself it looks awful. Is there an easy way to fix this without retyping every tag in every entry?

Hmmm . . . hopefully what I mean is clear, even though it translated oddly in the post. What I WANT to see is “The Elephant Man” (italicized). What I ACTUALLY see is “<i>The Elephant Man</i>”

You’re stuck with retyping I’m afraid. Either that or get staff to empty out the blog and try a reimport.
Take a look at the Movable Type backup file that you have. The tags didn’t get encoded somehow, did they? They would look something like this without the spaces:
& l t ; i & g t ;
If so, best bet would be to get staff to empty out your blog, do a search and replace for the i tag with a fix and reimport.
Also note that the i tag has been discouraged for use in HTML 4.01. You’re supposed to use the em tag now.
