HTTP 301 or 302 redirect?

    Hi,

I am in some sort of trouble after playing around with themes and adding/removing static pages.

I created ‘Welcome to IMSM’ as the welcome page https://irelandms.com/welcome/

I then created a page called Blog https://irelandms.com/blog1/ to become the page that users used to see when they went to http://irelandms.com

Since then I went back to my usual setup without a static page because I didn’t think it suited my blog, so I tried to set my old home page to https://irelandms.com again.

For some reason, this didn’t work so I had to use Custom Link http://irelandms.com as home page so that people would be directed to the page where all the new posts appear.

The problem is that when I try to share my blog via Facebook, scraping information shows an image that is missing my full blog title because the fetched URL is http://irelandms.com/ and the canonical URL is http://irelandms.com/blog1/

From what I understand I should use a HTTP 301 or 302 redirect from old URL to the new URL. If possible, can someone please help out as my knowledge about static vs latest page setup and using the correct way of going about using irelandms.com as the first/home page correctly. Can you please correct my mistakes as I am afraid that I will do something to my blog to prevent it going up in flames when I try to fix it myself?

    Thanks a million in advance,

    Billie
