HTTP 403 Errors – a quick tip
-
I recently started using WordPress and was encountering errors using the Twitter Share Button. Although I was already logged into my Twitter account clicking on the Twitter share button brought me to a Twitter log-in page instead. Even when the correct username and pw were given, all that was returned was an HTTP 403 error.
I have recently experienced similar problems on other sites I am subscribed to where either incomplete information is displayed or missing. I use Windows 7 with IE8 and also Norton 360 as my firewall. I found the solution through experimentation. Provided the website is one that you trust the following action immediately cleared all the problems.
In IE8 Tools>;Internet Options>Security Tab. Click on Trusted Sites>Sites Button. Then either type in the name of the website, e.g http://www.example.com or if you are already in the relevant website, the website details will be displayed automatically. The click the ADD button and the OK.
It is possible that others might me experiencing similar difficulties with other share buttons. Although I do not profess to be a computer wizard, logic appears to dictate that problems do not exist in the share buttons themselves but in individuals own computer security.
I trust the above tip helps resolve some problems that individuals may be experiencing, they certainly resolved mine.
