HTTP error uploading PDF & word doc to media library

  Just noticed I’m now unable to upload PDF and word doc files to media library after having been able to do this for years. Has something changed recently in the new update that does not allow this anymore? I would like to have PDF and word doc files available for clients to download from a page on my website. Thanks!

  Hi,

  It would be great to know the following:

  • When you try and upload documents, are you seeing any error messages?
  • Is the problem specifically with.pdf and .doc files — and you can upload images without a problem?
  • Are you uploading the files directly to the Media Library in your WP Admin interface, or through the page/post editor?

  Once I know more I’ll look into this for you!

  Hi! I’m getting an HTTP error specifically with pdf and doc files but not with image files when I upload directly to the Media Library in WP Admin. It also give HTTP error when attempting to upload pdf and doc files in page/post editor.

  I have been able to upload these document formats for a number of years. Wondering if something has changed in WP?

  Hi,

  I’ve done some testing and here is what I have found:

  I’ve checked the storage space available in your media library and you are only using 2% (66.5 MB out of 3.0 GB). So that is not an issue.

  I did a bit of testing and have managed to successfully upload a .pdf and .docx file to your Media Library. Let’s explore a couple of other things:

  1. Can you try uploading the documents using a different browser? I used Chrome to upload my test documents.
  2. Please run a speed test for your internet connection: http://www.webpagetest.org/
  3. Please paste the exact error message into your reply
  4. What is the file size of the documents?

  When I’ve heard back I’ll do some more investigation.

  Hi there, thanks so much for your response and help. After much trial and error, I’m still getting the HTTP error code so I think I’m just going to use google docs or dropbox to work around. Thanks again!
