'http error' when I upload an image

  • Unknown's avatar

    I drag and drop an image from my own Pictures file to put it in my WordPress gallery. The drop area goes blue (looks like it’s working!) then I get the image name showing up with a message ‘http error’. And the image doesn’t upload!

    Hi there,

    Make sure you are running a browser and version of it found here http://browsehappy.com or upgrade, please.

    What happens when you try another browser?

    (c) Exactly what you experience including what any error reports you receive state. Note that you can use http://snag.gy/ or http://cloudup.com to share screenshots and link to them here.
    (d) Which of these you are using the classic editor or the new beep beep boop editor?

    I was using Firefox 43.0.4. When I changed to Microsoft Edge the WordPress system confused me… I could not easily access my gallery and with difficulty I uploaded a couple of images very slowly.
    It would help if I could (a) find the dashboard and (b) access my gallery from there then (c) simply add a few images to the gallery.

    This link shows the result of trying to add a picture;

    Sorry, “Gallery” was the old WP name for “Media Library” and I prefer the new name.

    Http error

    The link feature didn’t work above. It’s not my day!

  • Is it a specific image that will not upload? Or is it every image?

    I am also having trouble in similar fashion. Also using Firefox but it worked OK for several months. I did notice that loading pictures to the media library had started taking longer then no go. It happened around the time my Admin button disappeared from the opening page

    Just tried a different browser and it worked. Thanks for the suggestion. Cannot think why I did not try this before. Posting had become second nature, I suppose.

    I had trouble with a variety of photo uploads with Firefox (selecting and drag and drop both failed) but Edge would upload one at a time by selection. Drag and drop didn’t seem to be available there.

    After successfully using Internet Explorer and transferring one photo at a time (as I have always done) , I then re-tried Firefox and all was working again. I did not test out drag and drop on I.E. Puzzling but at least it worked.

    NOW ALL IS GOOD. I can drag and drop successfully with the same Firefox on the same OS. It’s just how it should be, I’ll never know why it was impossible for at least two days!
