http error when trying to upload photograph
-
I am getting an http error sign when trying to upload media. This has never happened before but I have just had my laptop given a ‘wash and brush up’ spring clean by a computer expert. Has something changed that I should put back? I am not very IT literate I’m afraid!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
We did have an issue with this a week or so ago. However, it should have been cleared up. Can you try resetting your browser cache as explained here?
Let me know if you’re still experiencing the issue!

Hi, I have done that but no change. But I have discovered the following. If I go to my blog via Internet Explorer I can load from my pictures into Media Library, but it will not then load properly onto the post. However, if I then go into wordpress via Firefox, it will load the photo properly from my Media Library into the post. But I can upload nothing directly from my pictures into the Media Library via Firefox. In other words, to put a photo of my own onto a blog post I have to first go in via Internet Explorer, save, log out, and go back in via Firefox, and then the action is complete. Does this mean anything to you? !!!

Hi there,
I’m sorry you’re still experiencing trouble! Could you perhaps capture a screenshot of the error message and upload it to your Media Library? I realize that this will put you through the painful process yet again to upload the image. Instructions for taking a screenshot can be found here:
That will help us to troubleshoot!

Hi, I have tried to upload a screenshot and it is sitting in my media library as ‘wordpress-error-message, via Internet explorer. I cannot get it to open on a blog page other than as text so I leave it to you to see what happens. When I opened my media library via firefox the same screenshot does not appear in the media library except as another photo from the file it is stored in!!! I really appreciate your help, thanks.

Hi!
Thanks for uploading the screenshot! We’re taking a closer look as to why this might be happening. I’ll let you know as soon as I have more info!

Hi there,
Can you try adding an image to your Media Library now? I believe this may have been related to storage capacity. I’ve temporarily added a 10GB Space Upgrade to your blog. Let me know if that makes a difference!

Hi!
One more question as we’re digging into this issue. Can you let me know what URL is in your address bar as you’re trying to upload an image? It should be either one of the following:
https://sweffling.wordpress.com/wp-admin/media-new.php
or
I appreciate the help!

Hi, I had wondered about storage capacity myself. Unfortunately it has made no difference at all.
Via Internet Explorer the URL is:
https://sweffling.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=8201&action=edit and via Firefox it is: https://sweffling.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=8186&action=edit# with a triangle and exclamation in front of it.Hope this helps! thanks again:)

Hi!
Can you try uploading images at the following URL?
I’m just trying to see if you experience the same error there.
I appreciate your help in troubleshooting the error!
-
Yes that works like a dream!! Just like it used to work on my blog in the good old days;) Hope that is a useful diagnostic, and thanks again.

Hi!
Great! I’m glad that’s working for you. However, I’d like to make sure the other method is fixed as well. Can you try uploading an image from your Dashboard and see if you get the error again?
-
Eureka! That works too. It looks as though you have cracked it.
Thank you very much indeed. Is there anything I need to look out for in the future from my end if such problems occur again?
I really appreciate all your hard work:) -
Great! There isn’t really anything you need to watch out for in the future. This wasn’t caused by anything you did! Let us know if it pops up again.

Have been away but just wanted to finish this thread by thanking you very much indeed for sorting it all out for me and sticking with it!
