http error when uploading to Videopress
-
Hello, when I upload to Videopress the blue bar moves very quickly , taking just a few seconds, then some time later I get a ‘http error’ message on the top with no other codes. I have searched support and the forums for any ideas but not found any helpful. This first started happening 3 days ago, I have contacted support who suggested it may be a temporary error. I tested again and it is still happening and is right now. I emailed them yesterday trying to fix it before they respond. I have tried uploading 8mb mp4, 20mb mov and 33mb mov all with the same result. I tried uploading to vimeo in case there was an issue at my end and it uploaded ok. I have checked if anything in my router (draytek), win 10, firefox or antivirus (gdata) is affecting and so far can’t find anything.
Any suggestions or ideas gratefully received

Hi @wolfeyes888 — is there any chance you could try in Chrome to see whether you get the same error?
-
Hi Supernovia, I will install Chrome and let everyone know how it goes. It is becoming a bit of a moot point for me, 5 days since contacting support and nice responses but no suggestions. I turned autorenew off this morning and was resigned to just letting Videopress run out, enjoyed a few good years but assume all the effort is being put into keeping WordPress so good. Will let you know the result after installing chrome.
Thanks

Hi Supernovia, downloaded Chrome and the same result. Also tried two different computers with the same result. Is there a port Videopress needs open? Any suggestions gratefully received!

I actually had this error for a few days myself, several months ago. We troubleshot like crazy and finally determined my internet connection was dropping data here and there. Firefox verifies uploads differently than Chrome, and Chrome was better able to handle my connection. And then the connection errors went away and I was fine uploading regardless of browser.
If a different browser didn’t help, you might try a different connection (if possible) to see whether that makes a difference. If that isn’t possible, try gathering some of the results mentioned here, and send them in to support: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/advanced-browser-troubleshooting

Hi @wolfeyes88,
I’m sorry that the error still persists. Were you able to make any breakthrough after trying to upload using a different connection? Looks like the issue you are facing could be due to connection issues, as @supernovia rightly suggested.
Quoting from the VideoPress support article:
My upload dies before it finishes.
A slow or unreliable Internet connection can further limit the size of the video you can upload. Try uploading at a different time of day or from a computer with a faster internet connection. Keep trying (don’t worry, failed attempts don’t count against your storage space limit). Also, you were saying that you have been using VideoPress for a while now, right. Could you check the status of your storage space? If you’re on a premium plan, you should be having 13 GB of free space. The HTTP error could be due to lack of free space (even though chances for the same are low).
Btw, sometimes (not always), videos/images would be available in the media library even after failed uploads. Could you check your Media Library for any uploaded video files?

I was able to double check; they’ve got plenty of upload space. And I do think it’s a connection issue, but it’s odd that they’re able to upload elsewhere.
@harishankerr if you can send the results of those network tests, that would be great. Thanks!

I have taken screenshots of the HTTP headers as well. Have uploaded them into Google Drive. Here’s a link to the same:

Hi Hari and Supernova,
Big thanks for all the help! I was able to upload through another connection, which goes with your suggestion it is a connection issue.Hari thanks for the ping data and http headers. I just want to be sure where I am trying to connect to, my blog is wolfeyes.tv hosted on dreamhost.com but I upload the videos to https://wolfeyes888.wordpress.com which by the domain name I assume means the videos are actually hosted by wordpress and embedded withing wolfeyes.tv? Just trying to work out which domain I am having problems connecting to, though I can ping and read both. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hi @wolfeyes888,
Great to know that your problem is resolved. :)
And, since we were testing video uploads, as you rightly said, the videos are hosted by WordPress and embedded in your self-hosted blog. So, I guess the issue you are facing is with WordPress.com (VideoPress).

Hi folks,
Big thanks for all the help! I was able to upload through another connection, which goes with your suggestion it is a connection issue.
Perfect. Thanks.
And yeah, actually the test would need to be from @wolfeyes888’s internet connection (the likely culprit) to wolfeyes888.wordpress.com since that’s where the videos are uploaded. That would help us see what’s getting stuck between his connection and these servers.
I’m glad using a different connection did the trick! You might check in with your ISP and see if they can figure out what’s going on with the connection.

Oh! @harishankerr, my bad. I meant to ask @wolfeyes888 for the results of their network text but pasted the wrong username. Thanks anyhow for fulfilling that odd request!
-
@supernovia :-) I kinda guessed that. Still, thought I’d give my two cents – if it’d help @wolfeyes888 get their uploads right. :)
And, always too happy to be of help. :)
