Hey there,
The “S” in HTTPS stands for Secure and means that the traffic to the page is encrypted. WordPress.com secures your site by default using SSL security as outlined here:
Strong encryption is critical to ensure your privacy and security while using WordPress.com. We encrypt all domains that are registered and connected to a WordPress.com website with an SSL certificate. We consider strong encryption so important that we do not allow you to compromise the security of your site by disabling it. We also 301 redirect all insecure HTTP requests to the secure HTTPS veCan you share an example of a post or URL where you are not seeing a secure link?
Thanks, look forward to hearing from you.

Hi, thank you. In my list of published posts here: https://wordpress.com/posts/vrystaatconfessions.com
I press COPY LINK and get: http://vrystaatconfessions.com/2022/05/03/my-face-in-a-book/

Hey there!
Interesting – it looks like you may have stumbled across a quirk there, one I’m looking into the “why” of.
The HTTP does redirect to HTTPS, just to reassure you!
Are you able to provide more context when it came to sharing this link please?
Many thanks in advance!

Context? If I want to send a link to one of my posts to a friend –
I go to the post. I click on COPY LINK. I paste that into their email or messaging service and it comes up http.
I don’t like that, I’d like it to be an https link. So I’m asking why it does that, please.
Thanks

Thanks for sharing those additional details! After checking, it seems there’s a known issue with non-plugin enabled sites using a custom domain.
No worries, though! If you view the post and copy the link from the address bar, it will display the secure https version of the link. Alternatively, you can still use the http link from the “copy link” menu, and rest assured, we’ll automatically redirect any traffic from the http link to the secure https version.
I don’t have a precise timeframe for when that will be resolved, but I hope this sheds some light on the situation!
