HTTPS question

    Good afternoon,

I have an issue with a different account owned by an employer. I have logged into the wordpress account using the credentials they have provided me and I have been working on the wordpress account there. I went to settings to change the url to https instead of http and now not only can the webhost no longer find my website, but I cannot log back into the wordpress account that was provided by my employer. How to I undo the https in the settings to that account?

  • Hi there,

Your site is not hosted with us on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software at another host.

Changing the domain on a stand-alone WordPress site like yours has to follow a specific process. You can find the documentation for that process here, though many hosting providers have their own process for this via their hosting control panel.

    https://wordpress.org/support/article/changing-the-site-url/

Depending on your setup, you might be able to fix this yourself using those instructions. If not, please contact your hosting provider directly for help.

Also note that you cannot enable SSL on a domain by simply changing the URL to “https”. To have a site load over HTTPS, you need to install a SSL certificate on your server, and the exact process and cost for this varies from one host to another. So you’ll also need your hosting provider’s help to set that up correctly.
