  My site is missing the SSL certificate but it should automatically have it from letsencrypt. How can I go about making sure my site uses https?

  You can check your website is SSL certify or not by entering your site URL here.
  https://www.1and1.com/ssl-checker, if it is SSL certify means it is having HTTPs secure connection.

  Since your site is self-hosted, for your self-hosted website you can find an answer on the WordPress.org support page at the link provided: https://wordpress.org/support/
