https://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress -> needs to be updated to include information about blocking xmlrpc.php . They already have information about blocking the wp-admin directory from public access, so the information for blocking xmlrpc.php should be included.
Which also begs the question: why not have xmlrpc.php inside of the wp-admins directory, as well?
Granted, I am working with an older installation, so (I would hope) this oversight would have been fixed in future versions.
