Hi
I am new here, but I would like to know if the blog i have chosen, can have www. before my actual name and also should have after my name @ is this possible to have all this?? I would have thought www. would have been better??
Thankyou
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I do believe that WP.com stripes the WWW out of the link because WWW is associated with a subdomain structure and WP.com URLs are sub domain by default with the .wordpress.com and for the @ symbol after your name I don’t believe that’s possible.

Ok…what would happen say, if I put the www. in regardless ..say on a buisness card, if someone typed it into their browser, would it still go to my blog please?
Thankyou :D
-
Yeah it would just redirect to http://sharonharvey2.wordpress.com
check it out for your self http://www.sharonharvey2.wordpress.com you will notice after clicking the link that the www is gone from the link in the address bar.
-
Yers thankyou, I did, and it did :), dont you think it looks better with the www. bit in though? Just out of curiousity.
What would happen if I put [Link removed] do you think that would work too?? I am scared to try lol!

Nope I don’t think it looks better.because www is such early web era.
By putting the @ symbol in the link it makes the prompt message that the person is getting ready to sign in as you.
Here’s a image reference of the message http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/4485/signino.png

I just thought with everything nearly being with an www, it made it look better? I can still put the www in mine though if I was putting it on a business card cant i and people will still get to the page?
Mmm, not sure I understood the @ symbol there…I understood what you said I the image I saw…but what is it saying…that people could sign into my personal blog as me?? That would not happen surely as they would not have my p/wd?
So I would not be able to put the @ symbol in with it and onto a business card?
-
PS actually I tried with the @ symbol and all I got was their is no website please try again?
-
PPS Is word press .com exactly the same as the google blog thing with the same layout etc?? I did ages ago set that one up but did not like it, but I have just gone over there and the setting SEEM to be the same….
-
Surely if your business card lists your blog address as sharonharvey2.wordpress.com, the .com will be sufficient to clearly identify that as a website. No need to have www for that purpose. Likewise, anything with an embedded @ symbol will be recognized by most people as an email address.

Correct you can put the www on your business card and they will be directed to the correct site. You just won’t be able to use the @ symbol in your URL.
-
A wise man once told me that most of the stuff online is NOT at www, and a third of the world can’t see that stuff anyway, because of their browsers, etc.
If you put www it not only makes your URL longer (very unfashionable) but it makes it look old-fashioned and it means many people won’t be able to see your site.
It will work, but it’s like telling people to to onto the driveway to your house, turn left, go over the lawn and through the vegetable garden, then around to the back yard, up a ramp to the roof, and then jump off, onto the porch by the front door. To get to the front door.

Ok, so I cant put www. on the card, but not @?

However, I notice now with MyS you can actually copy a photo or pic and paste it into the posting section of the blog, can you only upload photos and not copy them?
More importantly, like I said is other blogs – like Google set out the same way as Word Press?
-
You can put WWW, on a card but Not the @ in the URL symbol and NO wordpress.com is not the same as Google blog. WordPress.com is more advance and professional looking.
-
Oh right, they ‘appeared’ the same, can you copy and paste pics into a blog with out haveing to actually upload them, as you can with mys?
-
WordPress.com is more advance and professional looking. ‘
I agree with that, it is more professional looking, cant answer yet though regards advanced though I prefer the name better.
-
if you want something with an @ in your business card, include your email address. Like,
SHARON HARVEY
sharonharvey2.wordpress.com
(email visible only to moderators and staff)@ is so cool…, even my daddy loves it!
-
I have a strip already with my email addys on it thanks :D I am now adding all my sites onto a new business card :)
