huge mistake cancelling domain
-
Hello:
I canceled my service yesterday because I realized quickly should have used WP.org. I cancelled my domain and think now that was a mistake. I know you guys haven’t dropped it yet. Can I please pick it back up>The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi There,
There is a chance you may be able to get it back. There is a warning on the support page regarding the cancellation of your domain:
“Warning: after cancellation, there is no guarantee the domain will become available to register somewhere else, and you may not be able to get it back. Keep in mind that you do have the option to keep the domain at WordPress.com, and use it elsewhere, see our alternatives in the below sections.”And as it notes if you do get it back you can still use it elsewhere but keep it at WordPress.com.
I have tagged this thread so staff can take a look for you and hopefully get it back!
Thanks -

Hi there,
I’m still able to restore your domain, yes. As your original payment was refunded I’ve sent you a link via email which you can use to pay the registration fee again. Once we receive payment I can restore the domain to your account.
Do you already have hosting for your site? We have some information on how to get hosting here:
Once you have a hosting account set up I can help you point your domain there, and once you’ve owned it for 60 days you can transfer it away from us if you prefer.
-
We’ve just received your payment and your domain is back in your account and active again.
Let me know if you need any help pointing it to another site.

Thank you so much. I’ve selected bluehost to host my domain. I may need help but am trying to figure it out myself first. Thank you!!
-
Okay. Bluehost will provide you with their name servers. You’ll need to add those to your domain here to point it to them. You can find the instructions for doing this here:
-
Hey there, I am confused by the 60 day period. It’s showing that I am “locked” on bluehost. Does this mean I won’t be able to make changes for 60 days unless I do them on WP?
-
-
Basically I should have set up a site on WP.org instead of WP.com because there are some plug-ins I want to use.
-
New domains cannot be transferred for a period of 60 days after registration. That means your domain must stay registered with us for at least 60 days, but that doesn’t prevent you from using your domain with other services like Bluehost. The way you do that is updating the name servers, as I explained above.
I don’t know why you would see a locked message on Bluehost’s end, though. Unless you told them you want to transfer the domain to them?
Make it clear to them that you want to connect, or map, a domain you own at a different registrar, NOT to transfer a domain to them.
I am not a techie and I made something seemingly simple really complicated
Domains are not simple in any way, so don’t blame yourself :) The important thing is your domain is registered now, and you have hosting set up with Bluehost. All that’s left is to connect your domain to Bluehost and you’ll be able to get started on your site there.

Thanks! I really appreciate it.
I just looked at your blog (via your link). Congrats on the new baby. I have a little girl named Elizabeth too. Once I get my (bleeping) page up you’ll have to check it out. Elizabeth’s super hero quality is that she eats anything (veggies, spicy food, international food). It’s really fun having a kid who is an adventurous eater.
-
We’re just starting our Elizabeth out on solid food for the first time. The veggie-situation appears promising, but then her mum and I are both adventurous eaters too :)
I’m not able to help with your page at Bluehost, but if you need any more help with your domain on this end, let me know :)

I wrote this a couple of years ago when I was mom blogging. Starting solid foods is exciting! You guys are about to hit the fun stage!! http://lizainthelou.blogspot.com/2015/09/starting-solid-foods-what-to-eat-and.html?m=1
