Is anybody else having an avalanche of spams from extraproxies.com? For the past week I’ve been getting 200-300 a day! Can anything be done to kill them off entirely?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Are you getting spam subscribers to your WordPress.com sites or are you getting spam to your email address?
-
To the blog I mentioned: ubriaco.wordspress.com. This morning when I signed on there were 461 spams there.

I have the same problem. i have deleted 2000 extraproxies.com spam from my wordpress blog (http://ladynyo.wordpress.com) in the past three days. It’s relentless. And many of the spam comments from extraproxies are rude and demeaning. Saying I am not a convincing writer, etc. LOL! I’ve had this blog for 10 years and it is a well read blog for poetry and literature and I am getting only extraproxies spam now. used to be fire pits and school clocks, but they have been run out by the crap from extraproxies. How do I delete them permanently so I can not be bothered with these spam every few hours.????

Hi ladynyo – Could you send a link to the post that is getting spammed. Make sure you mark the comments as spam, this will help our security system learn.
-
Hi ubriaca – Are these comments on a specific post? Could you share a link with me here? Thanks!

Hi, Lizkarkoski,
Thanks for taking an interest in helping! No, these spam comments are coming in to everywhere on the blog. Take a look at the spam folder right now — There are 43 of them right now, which doesn’t count the 200+ I deleted earlier this morning:

I won’t delete any more until you have a chance to see them.

Good morning –
Thanks for that information. Instead of deleting the comments be sure that they get marked as spam. This will help our security tools learn where they need to focus and where spam is coming from.

I guess I didn’t express myself well, lizkarkowski. These messages ARE marked as spam — by Akismet. When I said they’re “coming in to everywhere on the blog” I meant they purport to be comments on many different posts.
Are you saying that I should just leave hundreds and hundreds of them in the spam folder permanently? (284 this morning) Can’t your security tools automatically reject these junk proxy messsages?

Hello there, if those comments are in the SPAM folder, then Akismet our comment spam filter is doing its job. Leaving them in the spam folder doesn’t do any harm or take up your space and they are automatically deleted after 30 days. If you want to remove them immediately you can click the “Empty/Delete Spam” link in the WP Admin Comments dashboard.
However, if you find those spam comments in your PENDING folder, do please mark them as spam so that Akismet learns.
You can also automatically close comments on posts older than X number of days if that would help. It’s #3 on https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#other-comment-settings

what in Hell are extraproxies? I’ve googled these and I can’t find out. Something about anom.? And they are coming from all over my blog posts, not able to send you ‘where’ because they would take too much time for me and you to figure out. And many of them are just plain rude. Does Blogger have this issue? People tell me that they have left WordPress for Blogger because this is not a problem there. But I hate to do this, as I’ve had this blog on WordPress for 10 years and basically don’t like change. A couple of spammers from extraproxies have threatened to ‘use’ my ideas on their own blogs and say ‘I’m sure that’s ok”. It’s not. Not now and not ever. Many of these spam seem to be generated by some weird writing group. LOL! Incomprehensible.
