Hungary not able to access the website

  • Unknown's avatar

I received an email of Hungary, Budapest saying that they cannot access our website. When they try to access, the image below appears.

We received the same problem from other users from random locations, so not sure if it’s their ISP blocking or some problem from WP side.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your users can try a workaround using a VPN or proxy to access the site. See https://en.support.wordpress.com/bypassing-internet-restrictions/

Thanks very much for your help and the tags.

However, I don’t think the visitors would appreciate a solution like using a VPN… I received more similar emails in the last weeks, and it seems they are not exactly from the same location, but I will keep asking their location if I receive new emails. It’s unlikely to be their ISP fault, but I could be wrong. Our site is totally safe, and it would be very strange for any ISP to block it.

    Hi there,

Have you made any changes to your domain mapskins.com recently? I just want to rule out that as a possible factor for the problem your visitors are seeing.

    Hello, thanks for your reply.
2015/04/06 / April 6th – this was the date that I bought the new domain from the wordpress. Since that date, nothing was changed, except a few days later from this date (6th april) the domain was activated as the main one.

Since the last weeks, occasionally I received in both the Facebook page and by email some complains with people that cannot access the website, which shows that screenshot I placed here in the initial post.

    I created this before:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/site-unreachable-for-some-people?replies=3

I thought the problem was resolved, but it seems we are still getting some people that cannot access, which lead me in confusion if it’s their ISP blocking or a problem from wordpress side, or the host where my website is located.

I believe that the impact is not so big to affect tons of visitors, but still it’s a bit strange since wordpress was always very reliable for any place.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi there,

Thank you for those details. Do you have any more information about the people who told you about that problem? For example:

    1. Do you know where they are located? (You mentioned one person in Budapest, Hungary; do you know the other locations where people had trouble?)
    2. Do you know what internet service provider they are using?
    3. Do you know if they are visiting your website from home or from another location such as work or school? Do they have the same problem if they go to another location and try to visit your website, or visit it from a mobile phone?
    4. Do you know if any of them have trouble accessing https://wordpress.com/ or other sites hosted at WordPress.com, besides your site?

That information may help us identify what is causing the problem for those visitors.

Unfortunately not. I asked a few others, but I didn’t receive a reply.

Do you know what internet service provider they are using?

    No idea.

Do you know if they are visiting your website from home or from another location such as work or school? Do they have the same problem if they go to another location and try to visit your website, or visit it from a mobile phone?

I never thought of asking this. I will ask them this for future emails I receive.

Do you know if any of them have trouble accessing https://wordpress.com/ or other sites hosted at WordPress.com, besides your site?

This I asked before for them, a few of them replied that they could see the website “wordpress.com” normally, the others didn’t reply.

If my info is not enough to determine the issue, I will keep asking them when I receive more of the same problem by email.
One thing I noticed is that this problem never happened before on our old domain, (we used yurixyworks.com for like three years, but it was not a domain registered with wordpress.com, only mapped). Since we changed to the new domain, this problem started happening randomly, although I still have little info, few issues to determine the questions above.

I should probably wait for more emails and ask them these questions to gather more information for you.

    Hi there,

If you can gather any more information from those visitors who are having trouble, it may help us identify what’s going wrong. It isn’t a problem with your website itself (your site is working without any issues on our end) — it’s very likely a problem with the network they are using to try to access your site, and although that isn’t something we can fix, with more details we may be able to help identify the problem so they can resolve it and get access to your site.

Please let me know if you’re able to gather any more details from those visitors. They are also welcome to contact us themselves for more help with that. :)

All right. I will try to gather more information.
    Thanks for your help.

    One more:

    1. Country and Region you are trying to access.
Mexico, more specifically Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico.

    2. Internet Service Provider (ISP) name or info.
    Telmex

    3. Are you accessing from home or work/school?
    Home

    4. Can you access wordpress.com?
    yes

Thanks. A couple other things these visitors can try, if they continue to have trouble accessing your website:

    1. They can flush their computer’s DNS cache. That will clear out any problematic DNS that’s saved on their computer.

    2. They can switch to OpenDNS using this guide:

    https://store.opendns.com/setup/#/

If it’s an issue with their ISP’s DNS, switching to OpenDNS should help.

On another note, the publicize with Facebook stopped working in my website. Every time I use publicize for Twitter and Facebook, it works only for Twitter… I’m posting manually in Facebook meanwhile.

Right now, your Facebook publicize connection isn’t shared with other users on the site. That means a post will only be publicized to Facebook when you’re the author of the post.

If you’d like to share that connection so everyone’s posts are publicized to Facebook, you can change that on your Sharing settings page. You can click on “Facebook” there to see the publicize connection, and check the box next to “Connection available to all editors and site admins” to make it available to all the users on the site.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hello, I’m the user from Germany, who experiences this problem and I just wanted to note that i have no problem with creating a VPN or whatever as long as I can get to the site i’ll do anything!

  • Unknown's avatar

Also I have some informations which might be useful: I’m trying to get to the site through a home computer, however it works when i try it on my android smartphone so it should’ve something to do with my computer i guess.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi berkye,

Thank you for sharing those details! Since the site works on your phone, it sounds like your internet service provider (ISP) is either blocking access to this site or has their network configured incorrectly for accessing the site. Can you please contact your ISP and ask them about this problem, so they can investigate it on their end?

  • Unknown's avatar

At the moment i can’t do that because i need some informations when i want to contact them but i don’t have them and i don’t see my father so often the last days.. I’ll just use the site through my smartphone until i get it working again
