Hybrid public/private site

    We want to set up a main static page as a public site, but limit only approved users to the posts page and other pages. Our approval process would only require having people submit their email address, not getting a full WP account. They would have contributor status. Is this possible? We’re trying to create a community bulletin board for a group of older folks who get confused trying to apply for a WP account.

    If you want to invite folks to be contributors, then wp.com needs a way to recognize who is allowed to view and contribute to your site.

    WordPress recognizes folks by their email address. In order for people to register an email address with WordPress.com they will need to set up an account.
