hyperlink

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have used hyperlinks before and I thought I was doing this correctly but it’s not working and when I type ‘hyperlink’ in the support search engine, the posts don’t answer my question, or they do and I haven’t found the right link.

    I want people to put their mouse on a word and have then click it and get to that link (a website). I am placing my cursor to the left of that word and pressing ALT SHIFT “A”. I get a small box asking me four questions. I put the link at link, the word at title, left or center on the alignment question, and both responses on the last question. I submit it and the box disappears and there is no hyperlink. Thanks!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    This page in the support documentation will show you how to add links to your posts or pages. http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

    This is so not urgent, so whenever you get the time… It worked but the only problem is that when you hover over the link, a picture of someone else’s blog comes up. It’s very funny. I have no idea who this is. When you click on the hyperlink, it does get you to the correct link but the hovering over is the weird part. I rather not disable it because I like that it would come up and show the correct link.

    It’s at: gigisanchez.wordpress.com

    Where it says “The Olympian,” which is a newspaper. The hovering is a blog. HA HA

    Thanks!

    What you are seeing when mousing over is an image of the site you linked to. If you go here you can turn off that option > Appearance > Extras
    look for:
    ___ Enable mShots site previews on this blog
    Don’t forget to click “Update Options” when you are done.

    If you are not getting any image of the newspaper called “The Olympian” then double check the link. You have probably inserted the wrong one. Is this the newspaper you mean? http://www.theolympian.com/

  • Unknown's avatar

    I linked to: http://www.theolympian.com
    It is mousing over: http://www.schwarzgregory.blogspot.com

    Does this make sense? I don’t know who this person is. I never wrote that blog link anywhere.

  • Unknown's avatar

    If it’s not displaying the site that you actually linked to then that is odd and I have no explanation for why it’s happening and how to correct it.

  • Unknown's avatar

    This is the link I’m directed to:
    http://www.theolympian.com/

    Is it a cache issue? Clear your browser cache and cookies, quit and restart.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes, that’s the link I mean. I have triple-checked it.

    I am typing, at link: http://www.theolympian.com
    I leave the other three areas blank. When I mouse over it, “The” is separate from “Olympian” and both times, this blog appears: http://schwarzgregory.blogspot.com/

    When I click on the link, it goes to the newspaper. I have hyperlinks on my page titled, “My Vegetarian Diet,” and they work right when you mouse over them.

    Maybe gregory shwartz is trying to tell me something.

    I love the kitty. How do I clear my browser cache and cookies, please? Can you point me to the right link.

    ps: Not hurried, not worried. I’m sure this will clear up.

    Well, this is odd.

    @timethief
    ,
    Do you get to the link the OP is trying to get to?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I don’t see anything in the source code for schwarzgregory.

  • Unknown's avatar

    What I get is that the “The” is linked to the blog and the “Olympian” is linked to the newspaper.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I cleared the cache (internet files and cookies, not the history) and it didn’t work. I made it so you can’t mouse over but I’m bummed because I like the mouse over feature. If anyone has another idea, that would be great. Otherwise, thanks for the help.

    ps: I uploaded a gravatar image from my computer and when it comes up, it’s not the image I clicked on. It’s a black screen with writing on it. Weird. Any thoughts?

    @gigisanchez

    What are you pasting your text from?
    Your code is bloated with useless tags. Here is your link:

    <em><a href="http://www.theolympian.com">The </a></em><span style="font-family: Palatino Linotype; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: Palatino Linotype; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: Palatino Linotype; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Palatino Linotype; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Palatino Linotype; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: Palatino Linotype; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-family: Palatino Linotype; font-size: medium;"><em><a href="http://www.theolympian.com">Olympian</a></em></span></span></span></span></span></span></span>

    Here is all you need:
    <a title="The Olympian" href="http://www.theolympian.com"><em>The Olympian</em></a>

    1tess,
    Where do apply this? I’m not understanding what you’re saying. Not in the link?

    ps: If an avatar that’s black with words is showing up, I loaded a picture of my dog and I’m not sure why I’m getting something foreign. THANKS for your help.

  • Unknown's avatar

    okay, well the gravatar isn’t coming up. Unless it takes time. If it does, no need to reply.

    @gigisanchez

    The code I gave you in the second case above is all you need to make your link. All the code about “…font-family: Palatino Linotype; font-size: x-small…” is just junk.

    If you continue to do that (copying from pre-formatted places) your blog will get very messed up—worse than just a confused link.

    The issue with your avatar is not related to the junk code. I’m seeing one of the WordPress generated symmetrical designs, not anything black with words nor a dog. Did you go directly to http://en.gravatar.com/ ? For quite some time there have been issues with uploading a picture directly from your profile as described here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/gravatars/

    Keep in mind that it may take a while for the avatar to appear. They usually show in the forums first. You can test it here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/test-your-avatar-here?replies=2890

    @gigi
    Junk code from copy pasting text
    What Tess is telling you about junk code from copy and pasted text is right on. This post explains why and also how to use the icon in the editor that strips out all that junk code. http://en.support.wordpress.com/microsoft-word/

    Gravatar uploading
    Prepare the image prior to uploading it and make sure it’s no larger than 128 pixels X 128 pixels.The image filetype has to be either PNG, GIF or JPG. Make sure the file name contains only letters and numbers – no special characters – and make sure all letters are in lowercase. Also make sure the image file name has an extension eg. image.jpg
