Hello @hamlynterrace,
You can still do that.
On the post editor screen, Click on the + icon to insert an image. Select the image from the Media Library. Click on the image that you just inserted. Hit Ctrl+K. Now, change the value of the URL field and click Save.More information about image links can be found here:

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly – appreciated.
Yes performed each step, yes it allows you to paste the URL, and even select ‘Open link in a new tab’, (Saved the Draft Post) so it looks like the function is working correctly.
When you look in the text editor, the code for the hyperlink is not there, only the image code from the media library and the Image Title Attribute I entered info, e.g.
<img class=”aligncenter wp-image-38384 size-large” title=”Image Credit: Unsplach [Pixabay] (CC0)” src=”https://chucklesandlaughs.files.wordpress.com/2017/01/walker-1208261_1280.jpg?w=474″ alt=”” width=”474″ height=”316″ />
Example of how it worked previously (from early Post), note the Pixabay URL info:
<img class=”aligncenter wp-image-29096″ src=”https://chucklesandlaughs.files.wordpress.com/2015/04/01a19.jpg?w=474″ alt=”” width=”393″ height=”262″ />Have tried inserting the code manually via the text editor:
<img class=”aligncenter wp-image-38739 size-large” src=”https://chucklesandlaughs.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/plane7.jpg?w=474″ alt=”” width=”474″ height=”315″ />rel=”yesopener yesreferrer” is new.
Initially the code appeared as “noopener noreferrer” but the image was not hyperlinked when viewed on the site. When I manually changed it from “no” to “yes” it seemed to hold when Saved, and when viewed on the site, the hyperlink is working.
Another quirky thing, if you are in the text editor, and change to the visual editor, then view the text editor again, the code has changed, the system changed the code to rel=”yesopener yesreferrer noopener noreferrer”.
This means everything in the Post has to be completed (and I would suggest Saved) before going to the text editor and Manually inserting the hyperlink code (Saving) and definitely NO going back into the visual editor or the hyperlink for the image is lost.
Very strange – something has changed in the Content Management System.
Hope someone else can replicate the issues I’m am experiencing.
Many thanks

Oh great, when I submitted the response, the system removed the hyperlink code noted in both examples.
Tried inserting a screen shot, by the response field won’t accept it. Not sure how to provide example code ……. sooooo frustrating.
Hmmmm, pasted code into MS Word, copied and pasted same here, probably the response field will strip out the MS Word formatting, but giving it a go.

I tried adding link again, and looked into the HTML editor i see the hyperlink code there.

Thank you for the information, yes had cleared the browser cache and cookies, logged out/in again etc. Unfortunately, it didn’t help.
Further testing has determined that after selecting text, clicking on the Hyperlink button (Ctrl+K) on the editing toolbar, pasting the url, then clicking on the Link Options and selecting Open link in a new tab, followed by update, that is when the Hyperlink is lost. If you click on the Apply button, then the hyperlink is held. Previously, I didn’t have to click on the Apply button, just went directly to the Link Options. Something has changed in the system. Now I have to click on the Edit (Hyperlink) button, to set the Open link in a new tab (additional keystroke).
Regarding hyperlinking an image, after pasting the URL, you must click apply. Then the only way to get to the Link Options, is to click on the Edit image button when the image is selected, and set the Open link in a new tab under the Advanced Options section. Again additional keystroke.
Now I know what’s happening, can use the work around.
Many thanks – cheers
