hyperlink not working
-
I am a relatively newcomer on wordpress. I am trying to place a link on my wordpress blog and the desired page is uploaded at the geocities website.
While editing my post I managed to create a hyperlink using the tagThe link got created successfully, however on viewing the saved changes when I click on that link it points to a long url starting with my wordpress blog address. The page is never opened. I am not able to understand why is wordpress adding its url before my url (as seen in my browser’s status bar). Also I noticed some javascript error everytime I use the editor for creating a link.
After several hours of trial and error I finally gave up on the pretext that something is wrong with wp. Please help. Thanks in advance. -

The explanation is fairly simple: the protocol is missing in your link.
Rather than
«a href="www.geocities.com/chintan_kanal/ald.html"»algorithm designers«/a»
you want
«a href="http://www.geocities.com/chintan_kanal/ald.html"»algorithm designers«/a»
Hope this helps.

Anyone else notice that West468 didn’t have to put in a space after the colon to get the code to show up like the rest of us have to. Hmmm…

Hi drmike,
I didn’t use backticks. I used the code-tag but that alone did not
display the html, so I came up with « » rather than < > to make
the code show up… That was all. -
Matt, the backticks don’t work that way you’re thinking that they do. You usually wind up loosing the ‘http://’ portion of the URL.
For example:
Just the complete URL: http://drmike.wordpress.com
With backticks:
http://drmike.wordpress.comI’ll have to remember the « » marks.
Thanks,
-drmike
