Hyperlinks won’t work
-
Today I changed my theme to Hemingway Rewritten. Hyperlinks that worked before now say that the page could not be opened because the browser (Safari) could not open a secure connection to the server. The link seems to put https://href.li/? before the web address I used in the hyperlink. I have other blogs working fine, so it seems this is an issue with the new theme. I’ve tried deleting the links and inserting them again from scratch, but always the same error. Any ideas?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The blog I need help with is NOT 4000milestothesea.wordpress.com
It seems to have inserted that automatically. -

Hi @magicstringcat, I’ve checked a few pages on the site you referenced, and that are all working for me as far as I can tell. Can you identify a page and link where this is happening?

I’ve just changed the site’s privacy settings from Private to Hidden and that seems to have solved the problem. Strange, because with the previous theme it was fine on Private as well.

Hi @magicstringcat, ah, that explains it actually. If your site is private, we add https://href.li/? before the links.
That keeps private sites from showing up in people’s referrer stats.

This part is a little concerning, if https://href.li/? is giving an SSL error. If it’s a problem with the URL it’s redirecting to, we wouldn’t be able to help much. But if isn’t redirecting properly, or if the SSL error is with href.li itself, we’ll want to fix that. So if you feel like changing the site back to private so we can take a look, let us know.
In the meantime, I’ve confirmed https://href.li/? redirects are working from my private sites.

That is interesting. I just set my test site to private with Heminway Rewritten and the links all work fine for me, even those going to external sites. We do, if I remember correctly, intercept the external links and send them separately somehow so that the site that you are going to cannot track the URL of the private site, but they should still work just fine.

Thanks for the help and advice. I don’t know what was up with it, but as it works set to Hidden I’ll will leave it like that for the time being.
