I accidentally deleted my domain. Can I get it back?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I was playing around with my subscription and domain and accidentally deleted them altogether. I made a terrible mistake as I wasn’t thinking at that point. I did this today, a few moments ago. The domain I’m trying to recover is “dragonix.blog”. Is there any way that I can get it back?

Or do I have to wait for it to be available for purchase again in the future?

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

  • Hi there,

Do you still want the domain for your site here on WordPress.com, or do you plan on using it somewhere else?

If you want to use it here, I can send you a link to pay for the domain only and then restore it. But keep in mind in that case, it will only redirect to your free WordPress.com address. To actually have the domain be what people see when they view your site, you will need a plan.

If you want to use it somewhere else and are willing to wait a few days, the domain should become available again by early next week, at which point you can register it directly at the provider where you want to use it. If you prefer not to wait, we can still restore it manually, as above as well, and then help you point it to the other provider.

Let me know what you’d prefer.

I have plans for it for another website so I’m leaning towards getting it to google domains.

I’m ok with waiting for a few days for the domain to be up again.

In the meantime, how much will restoring the domain manually cost? I’ve read somewhere that there is a service fee charged for that?

    Thanks!

Since this is a recently canceled domain, it can be restored at the regular price of S$19.50. The fee you’re referring to is called a redemption fee and applies to expired domains that are renewed well after their expiration date.

When I got the domain, there is a period of 60 days before it can be transferred to another provider. If it was to be restored now, will I still have to wait for 60 days?

  • Hi there,

When you cancel a new domain like this (a domain that is less than 5 days old) you have a few options, so first I’d like to clarify what your options are here:

    1. Wait for grace period to end – Your domain is in a 5 day grace period (from the time you cancelled) but at the end of that it goes on sale again. As long as no one buys it before you do, you can purchase it again with another provider. According to our records it will be available on or about 3/29
    2. Let us recover the domain – Because you have already been refunded, we can send an invoice for registration fees and restore the domain. You’ll be able to connect it to a new host as soon as it’s restored, then transfer the registration after 60 days.
    3. Stay on WordPress.com – The cost of your domain is included in your plan purchase. To restore your domain just purchase a new plan, and then let us know so we can reattach the domain to your WordPress.com site. Note that you must choose the annual (not monthly) billing option in order for the domain recovery to be free.

Hope that helps! Please let us know how you would like to proceed, thanks!

I think I will stick with the first option you suggested. Thank you fstat and totoro very much for the information!
