I accidentally moved my domain

  Dear Team,

  I accidentally moved my domain from tttwrites.wordpress.com and all my links to that site are dead now. Can I go back to it ? Or maybe fix some sort of redirect ? This sounds like a sad thing, given there are no backward redirects.

  @01tonythomas – I’m curious about how you accidentally changed your site address? We provide multiple warnings and ask that you confirm that you understand that changing your site address is a permanent change and that it can’t be undone. We want to avoid people clicking the wrong thing so we try to make it a multi-step process – let us know if anything was unclear.

  In our support document for how to change your site address, we do note that by changing that address, links to your old address, including search engine results, will be broken.

  The way to get around that would have been to create a new site using your new name, import your content, and set up a site redirect on the old site to handle redirects on any old links/search engine results.

  However, since the old site URL deletion was within our 30-day recovery period, I went ahead and restored that URL. Please note that your content will remain on fosstalks.wordpress.com. Then, you can purchase the site redirect on tttwrites.wordpress.com to direct traffic and search engines to your new URL.

  I think I ended up skipping through the UI thingies fast, assuming that some sort of redirection still exists for the previous domain. Dont know how I missed all these red flags. Probably it was muscle memory from some other providers who preserve redirects. No clue. But great, wont happen anymore (hopefully)
