I activated the Google Authenticator but have no backup codes…

I activated the Google Authenticator, but had trouble doing this, so thought I dialled it so I never copied down any backup codes. So Now I am not sure what this means. Can you tell me what to do to disable it, as I do not want to be in a position where I cannot access my own Blog. Sorry for being old and overwhelmed with the technology.

    Hi there,

I’m sorry to hear about this. Please contact our Account Recovery team regarding this:

    Recover Your Account

They will be able to help you access your account and disable Two-Factor Authentication with the proper verification.

    Cheers!

I may not have been clear, but I can still access my blog. I am worried about the future, in that I do not really understand what the Google Authenticator is and I am afraid when I change computers or get a new phone I will be asked for a back-up code to verify who I am and I will not have such a thing.
So I do not think I need the account recovery yet, or do I??
I do want to disable the Google Authenticator…so is this what I must do??

    Hi there,

Oh I see! You will need your backup codes in case you get a new phone. So you can get another set! Once you have logged in, go to the link below:

    https://wordpress.com/settings/security

Click on the “Generate Backup Codes” button and print a backup copy of your codes.

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Thank you so much!! This is exactly what I needed and now I understand how to use the Google Authenticator and I have printed the back-up codes for future use!
I have noticed that I have far fewer spam emails since I set-up the Authenticator…coincidence? or was this a direct result of having the Google Authenticator?

    Thank you,

I’m not quite positive about this as 2-step authentication would be a way to prevent anyone getting into your account without having your authenticator app or your backup codes. But, I’m happy to hear you have less spam! That’s always good news! :)

    Happy Blogging!
