I already have a domain/website, so where does a WP domain come in?
-
I’ve had my own domain (if that’s what a paid-for website means) at kathy-freeman.de for several years and am fine with it.
And I like my default WordPress address
ms kathyfreeman.wordpress.comI am still a civilian re. profi blogging and don’t get what the WP domain actually means. How could it help me attract more readers? Can I use my existing domain as the WP domain? (please answer in extremely simple sentences if possible)
thanksThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ll try to explain. Right now you have two separate websites. One (kathy-freeman.de) has basically static pages where you talk about yourself, your work, your shows, etc. The other (http://mskathyfreeman.wordpress.com/) is your blog hosted on WordPress.com.
If you are happy with how both sites are working for you right now, there is no need to do anything.
If, however, you would rather have one website that included the information on both sites, you could host that site on WordPress.com.
Here are the basic steps required to make the change:
1) Create new pages on your wordpress site with the information from the pages on your self hosted site. (note: you would need to link directly to the CD baby info rather than including it in an iframe–which is how it works on your current site)
2) purchase the domain mapping upgrade so that your domain name http://kathy-freeman.de/ pointed to your updated WordPress site instead of your existing stand alone site.
The main benefit of having one site is you would only need to share one URL with supporters/fans and they would easily access all of your content. Additionally, if you blog regularly, your site will become more popular with google, which means you have a better chance of new fans seeing both your blog, and your other information.
