I already have a godaddy domain, wordpress charges $13?
-
Let me get this straight: wordpress charges $13 a year if I already have my own domain through godaddy.com?

That seems high.. Godaddy does not charge for redirecting the domain to wordpress, why does wordpress charge?
Maybe I am not understanding it correctly..
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I think I’ll let it lapse and then re-purchase through wordpress for $18 a year.. If I keep it with godaddy, it will be $10 plus $13 (wordpress)..
-
Yeah, but you’re taking a HUGE chance if you let it lapse. There’s a whole industry devoted to watching in-use URLs lapse and then grabbing them. It cost a friend of mine who tried the same thing as you $150 to get her domain back for just one year.

arg..
Can I just use godaddy to point to myaddress.wordpress.com?
Now you’ve all got me worried!
-
You can, but it’ll cost you that $13 a year. Worth it rather than taking the chance, i’d say. And no, Wp doesn’t pay me to say that.

Here are the instructions – takes a few minutes to do – then a bit of a wait for the changes to reach the far corners of the internet

ttrinitifx,
You do have a couple of options. Since WordPress.com doesn’t currently accept transfers IN, you can either map your current domain to the site as mentioned above. Here are the instructions from our end: http://go.me/cg
Another option, which would save you the fee, would be to forward the domain to your blog url. While people sometimes choose this option, it isn’t always recommended as it could affect your SEO negatively. We do offer forwarding with or without masking on all domains. If that’s something you’d like to consider, here’s how: http://go.me/dW

The problem I see with the forward and mask is visitors that want to send a link to an article on your site will have a tough time getting a real link to a specific Post – I don’t know how search engines handle this problem but I doubt it is good for getting your site indexed –
I have ended up on some sites that were forward and mask and getting a link to send on was very difficult
