  and have the code to transfer it but i don’t know where to transfer it to. Also, I thought wordpress was free? why does it keep asking me to pay for stuff

  WordPress.com has free accounts that you can also upgrade with paid plans.

  If you would like to use the domain you already own you will have to upgrade to one of the available plans. If you’re interested in upgrading you can check out the available plans and prices here https://wordpress.com/pricing/

  If you decide to purchase a plan you can, transfer or map your current domain to WordPress.com. Or, if you just want to add a blog to a site you already own you can map it as a subdomain.
