I already own a domain and am hosting it via GoDaddy, why am I not able to just connect my domain, why do I have to pay extra for WordPress Premium

If you want to connect your domain and set it as the primary one, you will need a plan.
Alternatively, you can add a simple domain redirect in GoDaddy and have your domain redirect to your free WordPress.com site.
