I already own my own domain
-
I am a brand new WP user. I have purchased the domain name: pennythewiser.com I want that to be my site address and then I will have a subdomain for my blog with the same name. I am just setting this up and want to make sure I don’t screw it up. WordPress. appears that it wants to make my address ‘(email visible only to moderators and staff)’ I thought that by purchasing my domain I wouldn’t have to have ‘wordpress.com’ as part of my address. Which package do I need to be choosing in regards to monthly cost to achieve this? And, is there something I need to be doing that I am not doing currently? Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You need to purchase a WordPress.com domain mapping upgrade after you choose a WordPress.COM plan so you can map to an existing domain from the .wordpress.com blog address.
Domain mapping is not done free of charge. You have to pay for an upgrade to map to an existing domain URL. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

https://en.support.wordpress.com/email-forwarding/What domain mapping does is providing a seamless redirect to the very same content under the new domain URL when a person clicks the old URL to the original content. It can take up to 72 hours for domain propagation to take place throughout the internet but it doesn’t usually take that long. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
