Please read this comparison so you are aware of all the differences between free hosted WordPress.com blogs and WordPress.org installs http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ -
Hi Guys,
I have read the notes re: uploads etc. and I understand the concerns, that said how do we link to Google search etc. when they (Google) require these files in the main directory etc.
Am I missing something.
If not, can you please advise best way to get to search engines.
Many thanks
Chris

Hi timethief,
All these questions must take up your time and I apologise in advance for stealing that precious commodity.
I have actually received the “meta tag from Google” so presumably it is a simple case of installing the tag into the meta area. So I will have a go and let you know if it woks, fingers crossed

No it’s not simple at all. We cannot access metadata on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs and insert anything. This is the only method of blog verification we can use for free hosted WordPress.com blogs. http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

Hi again, sorry
Have rec’d the following
google-site-verification: removed by Tess
Where do I put the thingy ???
Chris, god I feel dumb
-
I cannot do this for you. The step by step instructions are here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

Hi timethief,
I can understand a loss of time.
I have successfully verified the site with Google & Bing
The problem was the Boxes where the info supplied was supposed to be “pasted” did not show up. It was only by luck the mouse “happened to highlight the box as it past over it. Lucky
Many thanks for your help
Chris
