I am asked to verify my email to publish, but the verification email never comes

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

I’m new to wordpress and trying to use wordpress.com.

I created my first post, made it stick to my front page, but when I go to publish, it asks me to first verify my email address. I click the link to verify my email address, but I don’t receive an email from wordpress to verify my email address.

This can’t be that uncommon. Is there something I am doing wrong? I’d like to at least get my front page up this weekend, and go from there. I can preview the page, but it’s kind of useless if I can’t publish.

    The site is ncaarecruitme.com.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Going through the forums I see this isn’t a new issue, but I don’t see any answers as to how to resolve it outside of we will check with our staff

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Please check the Account Settings page and make sure you have the email address typed correctly:
    https://wordpress.com/settings/account/

Make sure you check your Spam folder. If you use Gmail, please check the Social and Promotions tab as well.

Here are other things you can try:

Let us know if that fixes it.

    Hi

I wound up having to change the email in my original settings. I think it had something to do with already having a wordpress personal blog, but I can’t be sure.

But by changing to a new email, I was able to receive an email verification and get going on my site!

Glad you got it sorted out. Happy blogging!

I think I made a work around that might come back to bite me!

I am still not seeing the site http://www.ncasrecruitme.com show up when I type it into the address bar :-)

It has only been since Friday night, but I would have expected it to already be live in this day and age.

    Hi!

When did you purchase this domain name? http://www.ncasrecruitme.com

Did you purchase it through WordPress.com or some other site?

This issue shouldn’t have anything to do with the other issue, I think.

This appears to be a duplicate thread. This thread is already tagged for Staff support https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/unable-to-verify-the-email-address?replies=4

Time: I am a newbie-but have been at this since Friday night. Going to close out that request too so I am not a pain in the forums!

Honey: I purchased it Friday around 4pm PST. I am thinking by tonight it should come up.

    Hi,

    I can see from http://who.is/whois/ncaarecruitme.com
that you bought the domain name from GoDaddy.

You need to map the domain to WordPress.com.
    Please follow the instructions here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
If you haven’t done so, you would need to purchase the domain mapping upgrade.

    Hope that helps!

    Honey

I was under the impression that I had purchased the domain ncaarecruitme.com plus the mapping when I opted for the 18 dollar upgrade offered by WordPress.

When Sunday rolled around, and it still wasn’t showing up, I went to godaddy. The domain was available, so I bought it. When I went to my domain in WordPress and attempted to map this, I was prompted to pay another 13 dollars to do so.

Now I am waiting on someone from WordPress to help me understand what the 18 dollar upgrade was before I spend anymore money.

This is the first site I have built, but wont be the last, so I need to understand what I am doing on the back end and how best to use WordPress to develop sites, but have them map to a .com versus a .wordpress.com site.

I know just enough to be dangerous :-)

Thanks for the input I really appreciate it.

    @timethief
I think that was a different person’s thread and it was a different issue from the question she has now.

    @pamsullivanblog
I think what probably happened was, when you purchased the domain from WordPress.com, it wasn’t successful, that was why you were able to buy the domain from GoDaddy. (If the domain purchase was successful, you wouldn’t have been able to purchase it from another registrar.)

I am not sure about that though and I am not sure what you have successfully purchased and what you have not so I am going to tag this for staff so they can sort this out for you. Please be patient while waiting for their response. Good luck!

    Honey

Thank you for the help. I really appreciate it. I don’t know what I bought either, but it obviously wasn’t what I thought I bought.

I bought the domain name from godaddy and parked it until I can find someone to help me understand what functionality I purchased from WordPress Friday night. The two could be intertwined, I have no idea, but for another 13 bucks, I thought better safe than sorry.

Again thanks for your help on this!

    Hi Pam,

After looking into your account, I found that you did purchase the domain: ncaarecruiteme.com through us. We are your registrar:

    http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=ncaarecruiteme.com

It currently says WWD is your domain registrar and that is who we use at this time. Please note all your domain info and changes can be done from your WordPress.com account. You can also view the domain in your My Upgrades page here:

    https://ibpam.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

If you have another domain purchased through GoDaddy you can map the domain to us via the domain mapping upgrade. Let me know if this is what you need!

    Hi Grace

    I bought ncaarecruitme.com from godaddy September 28th.

    Domain Name: NCAARECRUITME.COM
    Registry Domain ID: 1878020784_DOMAIN_COM-VRSN
    Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.godaddy.com
    Registrar URL: http://www.godaddy.com
    Update Date: 2014-09-28 18:59:24
    Creation Date: 2014-09-28 18:59:24
Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2015-09-28 18:59:24
    Registrar: GoDaddy.com, LLC
    Registrar IANA ID: 146
Registrar Abuse Contact Email: (email visible only to moderators and staff)
    Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: +1.480-624-2505
    Domain Status: clientTransferProhibited
    Domain Status: clientUpdateProhibited
    Domain Status: clientRenewProhibited
    Domain Status: clientDeleteProhibited
    Registry Registrant ID:
    Registrant Name: Pamela Sullivan

It would be impossible for me to have purchased this domain name on the 28th had it been registered already.

I went to the link you provided above, and I can’t replicate the information in your link. When I type in ncaarecruitme.com at the network solutions website, it also shows godaddy.

Can you help me to understand what is going on and/or how you got the result you did?

For whatever the reason is, the upgrade I purchased from WordPress didnt go through. I am wondering if I can get a refund since the upgrade didnt work, and if not, at least a credit to my account. I can already see that a free WordPress theme is somewhat limiting.

    Thanks Grace

    Pam

Grace I see the problem already

    ncaarecruiteme.com is registered with WWD

    ncaarecruitme.com is with Godaddy

I must have misspelled the name in the original registration, and now its too late to get a refund since we are outside of the 48 hour window. I should have acted on this Sunday when it wasnt showing up, but it would have never occurred to me that I would misspell the domain name :-)

    Hi Pam,

Which domain would you like to use?

    ncaarecruiteme.com

    or

    ncaarecruitme.com

If you want ncaarecruiteme.com you can keep that as is. If you want ncaarecruitme.com all you will need is a Domain Mapping upgrade (and an update of the nameservers). I can help you with this if you want to use this domain.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Grace

I am up and running and don’t need help mapping the domain.

Thanks for solving this though. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out what went wrong here, and without you responding, it would have remained as such.

    Have a good day!

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m glad it all worked out.

    Cheers!
