I am still getting spam comments even though users need to register before they can comment. There is no user info for the comments and but the comments always appear to be like this […] the original: SAMEX Calls For South African World Music Tracks | Shout-Africa Share and […]. . Is there anyway of stopping this SQL injection? I am using WordPress 2.9

You did not specify a URL beginning with http which is needed to make sure advice given here is relevant.
If you are using 2.9 then you are not hosted on WordPress.COM
