i am having trouble importing my blog to self-hosted wordpress.org

i exported my blog from my wordpress.com blog. then i updated nameservers to re-direct to my self-hosted wordpress.org blog, on hostgator. then i logged into wordpress.org and i am trying to import my old blog to the new blog. however i keep getting errors, and no way of resolving them
firstly, it fails to create the author of my old blog’s posts. secondly, it says ‘IMGxxx.jpg’ already exists, for a bunch of images that i have on my old blog. that repeats many times. and then the page stops loading. no next step or anything. i am stuck there. help!

seeing that ur a happiness engineer, may i ask one more question here?
im thinking of going for the Guided Transfer. however, i’ve started on the process myself..i.e. i installed wordpress on my host (hostgator) and switched nameservers etc. the guided transfer can still be done, right?
and to clarify what the guided transfer will do…once its transferred, my new self-hosted blog will pretty much look exactly like my old one, and have all the same content, posts, pictures, theme? is there any part of the old blog that the guided transfer cannot transfer? thanks

No, the Guided Transfer is really only available to folks starting from scratch (no hosting provider etc). I suppose you could still try to purchase it, but as the price includes setting up the hosting environment, you might lose some of the value. In a worse-case scenario, we’ll just refund what you paid.
The Guided transfer would transfer all of your content and get your theme setup as you have it now.

thanks for the reply. im really having trouble getting my blog set up by myself on my paid host, so i really could use some help, even if ive done some of the work myself. i already purchased a Guided Transfer, and i really hope someone can help me transfer my content over. its been nearly 24 hours, and i have not yet been contacted by any one regarding the transfer..how long does it usually take before im contacted after the purchase? thanks
