I am interested in increasing the visibility and readership of my personal WordPress blog.

I have a WordPress site – pearlsnmblog.wordpress.com. This is a personal blog that I do not use for any business generating activity. I am interested in increasing my traffic and getting more readers. My site appears to be indexed by Google. When I run the Google Rank Checker, it identifies many of my posts. I am not sure why it is identifying the ones that are listed, but does not identify many other posts. The only thing that I am doing now to try and make my posts searchable is to put relevant search word tags on each of the posts that I write. Would it be possible for you to direct me to a site that might be able to provide some insight as to how I might increase my site visibility and readership? Thank you.

Hi @rwkoehler1952, glad you asked! We’ve got quite a few resources that can help you.
To get a little more attention and thoroughness from search engines, try adding Google Search Console:

And of course being mindful to use helpful titles and relevant tags is a given. If there’s a particular question you think people might be googling to find an article on your site, try to include that question somewhere, too.
Just be sure you’re being careful with such optimizations — you won’t want to go overboard and get marked as spam.
Hoping this helps!

Thank you for these tips. I went to the Google site and added the meta data tag into Tool > Marketing > Traffic on the Blog Admin page. I then went back to the Google search console and Verified that the HTML tag is set.
I always add tags to any new posts that I create. However, I also see in the tips that an important thing to use are keywords. I utilize one of the free WordPress sites so I do not have access to use plugins. I do not know whether that also prevents me from using keywords. I cannot find anything that tells me how to add a keyword either to my domain in general, or to a specific post.
Where are there directions on how to add a keyword?
Thanks.

Regarding using Social Media. Whenever I post a new item to my blog, I also add a post to my Facebook page which alerts my followers that I have added a new post, and which provides a direct link to the new post on my WordPress blog.

About keywords, when we mention keywords here, we don’t mean “meta kewords.”
We actually mean determining which words are important to you, and then being sure to write your posts and pages so that those words are included. For example, if you have a company slogan that people know, and they will search the web for it, you will want to be sure to include that slogan somewhere on your site so that search engines will make the connection.

And, if you’d like to automatically publish your post to your Facebook page, we do have tools for that:
