I am lost as far as sitehelp recommendations go
-
And I was unable to install jetpack. That is why I did something else. I amnot sure if I botched the SSL certificate even though it seems to work… for now.
The problem with site help is it gives no clue how to actually go about fixing these things. Like, I did not attend Stanford and MIT despite not being the world’s biggest dummy when it comes to this stuff.
For a platform that is supposed to be for ‘dummies’ it sure is complicated. How can I know which plugins will bring the site to a screeching halt. How can I know which essentials are ‘missing.’
Where in the world do I go to update my MySQL version. My hosting site is Verio and I notice they do have less than 5.7 but what the H am I supposed to do about it.
It is a total mess and for the very first time in my life, may have hit my Waterloo. I always think that and I always figure it out. But the help is no help at all.

Hey there,
Thanks for reaching out. Currently jcmpress.mancuniancandidate.com is not hosted with WordPress.com.
To explain, there’s two types of WordPress. The first is WordPress.com, where we provide daily backups, automatic updates, a 24/7 support service and an optimised version of WordPress. The second is self-hosted WordPress, where the free open source version of the software is installed onto a server.
More on the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
On WordPress.com, Jetpack is already installed and an SSL is taken care of for you automatically, and we provide a hosting panel whereby you can switch PHP versions and access MySql, and these are just one of the main differences between WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress, so I totally understand where this confusion has come from.
It’s possible to migrate the site over to WordPress using our migration plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpcom-migration/ and the site would need to be on the business plan.
I’m hoping this information helps to clear things, and we’ll happily help to point you in right direction, and help with a migration if that’s of use.
I look forward to hearing from you!
