    HI – I don’t understand what CSS is or the plugins and I really just want to quickly speak to someone to tell them what I need and be properly advised.

    Hi there,

    Which plan you need will depend on what you want to do with your site, so in order to answer that I’ll need you to first tell me more about what type of site you’re building and what features you want on it.

    CSS is code that you add to your site that changes the way your theme looks. So if you want the site logo a bit bigger, or your headings in a different colour, or stuff like that. So if you are happy with your theme and the customization options it already has, you don’t need that.

    Plugins are extensions to the WordPress software that add extra functionality to it. For example, you might want to create an online store, then you’ll need an ecommerce plugin. Or you want to embed a live chat feature in your website, then you’ll do that using a plugin.

    We already have the functionality of a number of plugins built into WordPress.com by default, including site stats, sharing buttons, and contact forms. So again, if you’re happy with the default options available on WordPress.com, you don’t need plugins. Generally you’d only need a plugin if you already know you want to add a very specific feature that’s not supported by default.
