We noticed a couple weeks ago that Thai escort services appeared on our page out of nowhere. Now our site works half the time and there are error messages on the top of my page. Or is this an issue with our host, HostGator? Any support would be greatly appreciated

That is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, which we really can’t help with here.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
With that said, what they will tell you is this:
Carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.
