I am suddenly getting a lot of SPAM.

  In the last 24 hours I am suddenly getting a lot of Spam. I am repeatedly marking and deleting comments from random sources as spam. Is there a setting that has been changed that is allowing this? Have I been hacked? Is anyone suddenly having this problem and does anyone know if there is something I can do about it?

  Spam comes in waves, and sometimes new spammers will hit our system pretty hard. Fortunately our anti-spam system catches the vast majority of it, though some will always get through.

  I would recommend that you increase the moderation settings for your blog, here:
  https://snappytatter.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.php

  You can require that all comments, or at least all comments from people who haven’t been approved in the past, be approved by you before showing up on your blog. That will prevent spam comments from showing up to your readers.

  Thank you very much. I went in and updated my settings from your link. I really appreciate it. I think I was not aware it comes so heavily because so much of it has been caught. I have had over 271 spam comments caught in 4 days! Only a tiny bit got through comparatively. But boy, is that annoying!

  You’re very welcome.

  For every spam that gets through, thousands upon thousands were blocked. I agree, it’s still annoying when some spam sneaks through, but trust me, it could be so much worse. :)
