I am trying to add email support through the domain mapping addon
-
I am trying to add custom DNS records for email support through Bluehost. They told me to add an A record, as well as the current MX record. Neither of which have allowed the client to receive email at (email visible only to moderators and staff), and the messages sent result in a Error 550 (Sender cannot receive email).
My custom DNS records are as follows:
A mail 69.89.31.234
MX 0 mail.sacredsalve.com. -
Could you try this?
1. Go to Store -> Domains in your Dashboard.
2. Click “Edit DNS” button on the right of your domain name.
3. In the text box, paste the code below (don’t forget the periods at the end of each line):
A mail 69.89.31.234.
MX 0 mail.sacredsalve.com.4. Hit the save button.
Please allow 4-8 hours for .COM and .NET domains and about 24-48 hours for all other domain extensions for these changes to complete.

You are missing a period after “A mail 69.89.31.234” – as I posted above, you need to have the periods at the end of *each* line.
Add the period, and it should work for you. Please note it may take as long as 48 hours for the changes to take effect. If you still have problems after that time, please contact us and we’ll look into it further.

Ok, let me do a little more research on adding your mail support with BlueHost – were those the only two records they gave you to add the mail records?
Can you verify the values with BlueHost and I’ll post back when I have more information.
Thanks for your patience!

Heya,
I’ve talked with them about it twice and those are the values they said would work. I think it’s an issue with adding the wordpress nameservers to my bluehost account to make the URL mapping work: while the URL now resolves at the mapped address, there is something that isn’t transferring properly. I think I may have to convince my client to get an alt email address for now and transfer her site to wordpress.org in a few months.

I ran a test on the connection and the A record is working properly, but for some reason the MX record is not. Let me have one of our developers take a look and I’ll get back to you with what I find out.
Thanks for checking on that for me!

Ok, I heard back from our developer and he said that the DNS is set up properly. Here’s the output from the connection test that he ran on your mail settings:
dllh-mba:tmp dllh$ telnet mail.sacredsalve.com 110 Trying 69.89.31.234... Connected to mail.sacredsalve.com. Escape character is '^]'. +OK Dovecot ready. That shows that the DNS settings are set up correctly on our end and that it’s pointing to a mail server. Whether or not it’s the correct mail server needs to be determined by BlueHost. If it is, it should be working for you. Feel free to give them that output if they need more information.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

That information is correct, but your nameservers are pointing at GoDaddy right now so there’s no way that the MX records you entered here will work.
You will need to change the your nameservers to WordPress.com in order for your email to work properly here. Here’s a reference that will walk you through the steps – including a specific link to GoDaddy’s instructions:
