We have let the team member go that set up this site for us. However they have blocked us from removing them from access to our site. I need them removed.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is “we” when it comes to blog ownership so do be clear on that. Companies, groups and organizations of any kind do not own blogs here. Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner and it is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and their associated email address. You cant remove the username account that created the blog in question, if that’s what you mean, because they own the blog.

The blog’s owner must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchased upgrades to renew them or transfer the blogs and the upgrades to another username account or to use the lost password link or account recovery form.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

If you are not referring to the blog’s owner then see here please https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#removing-users

If you are referring to the blog’s actual owner then you need to secure their cooperation and have them transfer the blog to another wordpress.com username account. Staff cannot transfer the blog for you.

Yikes! I see a missing word above.

There is no “we” when it comes to blog ownership so do be clear on that.

Wow, well that’s interesting…we hired someone to create our business website, and they chose to create it on your format and now it seems because they created it they can also control OUR access to it…we never wanted a “blog” but a website…this is interesting…how unfortunate.
This makes using wordpress not favorable for the rest of our brands.

To establish and maintain control over your own sites make sure you register them so you actually own, and then be cautious about the user roles you assign to anyone you employ. https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

Unlike WordPress.ORG software installs, WordPress.com is a turnkey operation with off the shelf themes, and as we bloggers have no FTP access and cannot upload any custom themes and plugins, most do not hire anyone to set up sites for them. Read the differences here https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    A blog is a website.

A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.

What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.

Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/

I do apologize if I offended..I do completely appreciate that a blog is in fact as website..I did not mean to imply that it was not…my point was that we had brought on someone to create our companies website and were never told it would be set up as a blog until the basic structure was developed…at that time, rather than recreate it all..we have been attempting to keep it all in place and move forward…until now.
Just so that I am clear…essentially, there is nothing that we can do to eliminate the individual that established the content without their cooperation? Correct?

You have a simple employee / employer issue covering intellectual property and deliverables – you could very well have had the same issue no matter where you are hosted if the employee did not set up the web site in your company name – and no host is going to hand over a web site just because you ask for it – that just will not happen be it here or BlueHost or Godaddy etc.

I appreciate that..and thank you so much for pointing that out to me.
However, we have 4 other sites and have never had this happen…so this is a bit unusual..I would say that with GoDaddy, one simply has to prove intellectual property ownership of the actual domain in order to gain access to the site. Just thought I would share that.
That said,. thank you so much for the information. I do truly appreciate your assistance and am grateful for your guidance as to our HR issues.
I do want to say that I find your format lovely and under other circumstances would be quite pleased with it!
Have a wonderful rest of the day!

I am not in the least offended. I think have the hide of a rhino. I have answered questions here for over 9 years and predate all support Staff but one even being Staff, I also predate the support docs.

All sites here are structured as blogs. They have to be restructured if one wants to create what most people refer to as a website. No one is required hire a specialist of any king to do the restructuring. People I help who have basic computing skills and other skills, can restructure brand new blogs as websites, and have them up and running with 4 published pages and 4 published posts, in 4 hours time.

Just so that I am clear…essentially, there is nothing that we can do to eliminate the individual that established the content without their cooperation? Correct?

    Yes.

Thank you again…and just for the record..our “expert” was attempting to bill us in excess of 10 hours just to create the basic elements of the site….which I found crazy. I have little to no experience and have been able to navigate around quite easily…however I am finding one area that I cannot access…perhaps you are able to help me?

I know, but there is one section, it is on the right hand side of our home page, it has our hours listed, and I can’t find where to change them. I can change them in the body, but I cannot find that area.

The blog is private and Volunteers like us cannot view it. Are you referring to a widget like this one?

What is the name of the theme?
It’s on the very bottom of the site in the footer.
