This is a peer support forum where Volunteers and Staff work cooperatively to deliver WordPress.com support. Volunteers answer most questions and Staff monitor. When Volunteers cannot provide the required support we flag threads for Staff attention.
There is no phone support here. If you have purchased an upgrade then you can contact Staff directly using this link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ If you have not purchased an upgrade then simply post what you need help with into this thread.
As bloggers are writers we are expected to be able to use search utilities and follow written instructions and we have plenty of those. On the bottom of your Admin page you will find a link to the Learn WordPress.com blogging Tutorial prepared by Staff. http://learn.wordpress.com/
The support documentation is all found at the Support link http://en.support.wordpress.com which is also on the bottom of your Admin page.In addition to that we have a crew of Volunteers who tirelessly provide hand holding support in forum threads by providing the same answers to the same questions day in and day out. lol :D
Don’t hesitate to ask for help because we forum zombies :D will be happy to provide it.

The Themes Showcase has a searchbox your can use for features so you can narrow your theme search http://theme.wordpress.com/ You are describing a 3 column layout and there are currently 50 Three Columns Themes.
Right diebar can be changed on each page….
If you have CSS editing skills you can purchase a custom design upgrade are do the required CSS editing to achieve that.

Also wanting menu listings on top and left side.
I believe you are describing these:

P.S. If you are assuming that there are cookie cutter templates here and that we bloggers can drag and drop elements around on them to create the layouts we want then you are off track. Every theme here is uniquely designed.

I am totally confused now. if i purchase a template.theme why do i have to pay each year to keep what I have purchased. Also what the difference of wordpress.org and wordpress.com ? aren’t all themes and templates hosted by the hosting copy I have or do I have to different ones for each of my websites?

You don’t purchasing a premium theme through WordPress.com (not anywhere else) is a one time purchase for the lifetime of the blog while hosted at WordPress.com.
See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/upgrades/

Read this for clarity > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

WordPress.org and WordPress.com are completely separate and run on different software. Themes by the same names are coded differently to run on one kind of software or the other. They are not interchangeable.
The only theme that can be used on free hosted WordPress.com blogs are found here Dashboard > Appearance > Themes and are described here > http://theme.wordpress.com/
