I am unable to edit, change my homepage from the stock page.

  I am unable to edit, change my homepage from a stock template. I have ttried uploading different themes, uninstalling and reinstalling word press, and changing the static page in the setting menu, however no mater what i edit in my designated front page, nothing is changed.
