I am using the Penscratch theme. Why is there such a major problem inserting photos into posts?

  I cannot get the insert media to work properly. I am using the Penscratch theme. Sometimes I am able to insert media (photos) and most of the time I cannot. Is there a better free template that I should be using than this one?

  Hi Claremary,

  You should be able to insert media the same way no matter what theme you’re using. Can you describe what kind of trouble you’re having with it?

  If you can talk through the steps you take to insert those photos, and where it goes wrong, I can help investigate that issue for you. :)

  Hi, Rachel, This is a new Blog. I go to my dashboard and choose admin. and then add post. After I write the post, I go to my media library to insert a few photos into the text. I place the cursor where I want the photo to appear. Then I choose a photo from the library, edit to size, press insert into text, go to text and sometimes it’s there and sometimes it’s not. If it’s there, I place it . Yesterday, when I tried to publish it, none of the pictures were there, just little blocks with question marks in them where the photos should have been. I changed the publish from public to private and later on went back to work on it. This time I went to media library and chose the pictures, attaching them to the post. Then I inserted them and they appeared, although it was hard to position them. I used ” edit ” on the top of the post, itself to do the final edit. At 1AM , I finally changed the post to public and published it. Thanks for your help with this.

  Thank you for all of the details. :) I just want to clarify one thing you mentioned:

  When you edit the photo, do you use the “Edit Image” link to change its size? I’m thinking of the link you see in this screenshot: https://cloudup.com/c4xxpZ_mjCw

  If you use that link, can you explain the exact changes you make when you edit the image, before you insert it into the post? I want to check to see if that step is causing any problems.

  Also, do you have any blog posts where you still see the little blocks with question marks in them? It would help me investigate this if I could see a post that hasn’t been fixed yet.

  Rachel,
  I do use the Edit Image link to change size (usually to thumbnail or medium) This is the only change I have made before inserting it. All of my blog posts are now ok. I have edited all of them. I’ll be writing and posting another one this weekend.
