I bought a template, and I didn't get the downloadable file. How do I get it?

    Hello! I bought the Janice wordpress template, but I decided to have my own hosting but still wants to use the template. My programmer friend told me that I need a downloadable file. Please help me get one. I have a receipt to prove the purchase.

    It looks like you bought the Janice theme here at WordPress.com. Therefore the theme is configured for WordPress.com. This support doc https://en.support.wordpress.com/premium-themes/ says:-

    “Note: Premium Themes that are set up for WordPress.com use only cannot be transferred to self-hosted WordPress.org sites”

    Although it does go on to say “Some Automattic-developed Premium themes can be transferred to a self-hosted site at no charge, as part of a Guided Transfer. Please post in the Premium theme forums if you’d like to know whether your theme qualifies”. But paying for Guided Transfer is probably not something you’d want/need to do as your WordPress.com site has virtually no content.

    If you purchased the theme from WordPress.com less than 30 days ago you may be able to get a refund and then be able to purchase the same/or similar theme that is suitable for a new WordPress.org site elsewhere.

    Hi there,

    As @themagicrobot said above, Premium Themes bought from us cannot be used on self-hosted sites as they are not compatible with the self-hosted version of WordPress. In this case, Janice is also not an Automattic theme, so we cannot switch your theme purchase over to the self-hosted version, even with Guided Transfer.

    When you bought the theme you bought a licence to use it on WordPress.com only. You can try contacting the theme developer and ask if they’re willing to let you switch your theme over to the self-hosted version, but most theme shops don’t do that:

    As you bought the theme in September it’s also not possible for us to refund it any more, as we’ve already paid the theme shop for it.
