I bought my domain from Bluehost, I am having trouble making my wordpress account match with the dom

I bought my domain from Bluehost, I am having trouble making my wordpress account match with the domain I bought. I “mapped” it already, but it hasn’t changed anything…
I want to change my blog url to: “ceciliabythesea.com”
    I do not want “everythinghomey.wordpress.com”
    I appreciate your help,
    Cecilia

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • It looks like your domain is not pointing to WordPress.com name servers yet:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-helper/?host=ceciliabythesea.com

Please go to your domain registrar’s site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM

    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you for your response. I made the changes you said to make and I also changed my username. My “account” page info on WP is right, but when I go to “My site” the old web address and username is still there. Does it take days to see the change or do I need to do something else?

  • I am seeing ceciliabythesea.com point correctly to your WordPress.com site.

It can take 24-48 hours for domain/DNS changes to propagate throughout the internet. It typically happens faster than that, but it really depends on your ISPs update frequency. If you are still not seeing the correct site appear after 48 hours has elapsed, please contact me again.

It also looks like you did not have ceciliabythesea.com set as your site’s primary domain name. I have switched that for you and it should now display ceciliabythesea.com to viewers.

Also, do let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.

Thank you so much for your help! Also, my “username” is still set to “everything homey” even though I changed that as well. Can that also take a couple days to change in the system? I had changed my username to ceciliabythesea as well.

  • I’m seeing your username display here as “ceciliabythesea”.

When I click on the upper left hand link “My Site” the page on the upper left says
    everythinghomey (black normal font)
    ceciliabythesea.com (light italic font)

  • everythinghomey.wordpress.com is the underlying site that you have ceciliabythesea.com pointing to. Your viewers will only ever see ceciliabythesea.com. But if you want, you can change the underlying name of your site using these instructions:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

Keep in mind that once changed, the old name will become unavailable for use in the future.

You could also start a new WordPress.com site and switch ceciliabythesea.com to point to that.
